Zippy's is one of the top local fast-food restaurants on the island of Oahu. There's one on Maui and another in Hilo of the Big Island. When visiting Oahu, we always stop at Zippy's for the local food and great hospitality. And you know the food is good when you see lots of local people eating there.
Just a little history about Zippy's. The fast-food restaurant was established in October 1966 by brothers Francis and Charles Higa in Honolulu. At first, the Higas were planning to open a car wash (don't know why), but they ended up creating a restaurant. The kitchen was located in the back of the Zippy's McCully fast-food operation. Now, how or why they came up with the name, Zippy's? At the time, the zip code was gaining popularity because it was a faster and more efficient way for mail to arrive. The Higa brothers liked the idea of zip codes and they wanted their restaurant to have the same kind of service, so they named the restaurant Zippy's. Cool, eh?
Anyway, instead of me writing more about Zippy's, check them out when you're visiting Oahu. The food is good! And by the way, they are opening a Zippy's in Las Vegas in 2020, which is known as the 9th island of Hawaii!
